A New Residency Management System Starts

As of July 9 (Mon), 2012, the existing Alien Registration System will be abolished, and foreign residents will be subject to the Basic Resident Registration Law. The City of Yokohama will issue certified residence record cards (juminhyo).
Foreign nationals who legally reside in Japan for more than 3 months:
In order to include foreign residents in the residence records, in mid-May, the city of Yokohama will send each registered foreign resident a document to confirm the registered information. Please contact the Ward Office if you find any discrepancy in the information. If you have any inquiries with regards to the information on the documents, please call Yokohama-shi Gaikokujin Juminhyo Telephone Center.

Subsidies for Purchasing Compost Bins and Electrical Garbage Disposal Units

Subsidies can be provided for those who are purchasing compost bins (for first 800 people) and electrical garbage disposal units (for first 500 people). Please contact Shigen Junkankyoku Gyomuka (Resource and Waste Recycling Bureau), or refer to their website.

Subsidies Provided for Spaying/Neutering Cats

The city of Yokohama provides financial assistance to Yokohama citizens who wish to have their cats spayed or neutered. Subsidies will also cover the procedure for stray cats. The amount of the subsidy is \4,000 for pets and \6,000 for stray cats per surgery.
Application Period: Jun.1 to Sep.28
Eligibility: Yokohama citizens who are over 20 yrs old. Eligible cats must be living in Yokohama and be judged as healthy by a veterinarian.
Limit: Up to 2,400 cats *First come, first served.
*There will be a second campaign for 2,000 cats in October.
To Apply: Please go to the Health Sanitation Division (Seikatsu Eisei-ka) in The Health and Welfare Center (Fukushi Hoken Center) of your ward and apply. You can apply for up to two cats at one time. Proxy application is only accepted for one cat.
When you apply, please bring your ID such as a driver’s license.

Comprehensive Survey of Citizen’s Living Conditions

This survey, Kokumin Seikatsu
Kiso Chosa, is conducted by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. In Yokohama, 35 areas of 18 wards are selected as the areas to be surveyed. From mid April, researchers with certificates will come around to each household to conduct the survey.

Subsidies Provided for Microchip Implants for Dogs and Cats

Subsidies are provided for healthy dogs and cats living in Yokohama. \2,000 per implant can be paid by the city.
Application Period: Jun.1, 2012 to Feb.28, 2013
Limit: Up to 1,000 pets *First come, first served.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Yokohama citizens. Cats and dogs should be healthy. Dogs must be registered and should be inoculated for rabies in 2012.
To Apply: Please contact a veterinarian who is participating in this campaign (vets who are members of the Yokohama Veterinary Medical Association) and make an appointment. You will need to bring your ID such as a driver’s license, and your inkan.

Application for Elderly People’s Public Housing

There will be a lottery held for placement on a primary waiting list to fill vacant apartments. These apartments are designed to provide a safe environment for senior citizens over 60, including barrier-free amenities and an emergency call services.
*There is no nursing care. *Housing will be available in the case of a vacancy between July and December.
*An income-dependent rent subsidy is available.
