As of July 9 (Mon), 2012, the existing Alien Registration System will be abolished, and foreign residents will be subject to the Basic Resident Registration Law. The City of Yokohama will issue certified residence record cards (juminhyo).
Foreign nationals who legally reside in Japan for more than 3 months:
In order to include foreign residents in the residence records, in mid-May, the city of Yokohama will send each registered foreign resident a document to confirm the registered information. Please contact the Ward Office if you find any discrepancy in the information. If you have any inquiries with regards to the information on the documents, please call Yokohama-shi Gaikokujin Juminhyo Telephone Center.

*Alien Registration Cards which you are currently using can be used for a certain period of time after July 9, but please report to the Immigration Office at your earliest convenience to change your card to the new Residence Card (Zairyu Card). Please contact the Immigration Office for more details.
*You cannot have a juminhyo if you do not have status of
residence. Please ask for information at the Immigration Office.
