Notice to Foreign Residents

From July 8, 2013, a resident code will be placed on the resident registration of each foreign resident. On the same day, resident registry information will be sent to the Basic Resident Register Network (Juki net). A resident code will be notified to each foreign resident by postal mail, and you will be able to start utilizing services using this Juki net.
*Regarding the notification of a resident code, there will be no special procedure you need to take.

■If you make a “Basic Resident Registration Card” (with charge), you can use the card as your ID.
■“Denshi Shomeisho”, digital certificate which you need for digital administrative procedures on internet can be installed into Basic Resident Registration Card” (with charge)
■You will be able to obtain a copy of your resident registration from any municipal office in Japan (with charge).

Kindergarten Tuition Subsidies

Subsidy of at least \48,000 per child per year will be provided to families with children who have enrolled in a private kindergarten between Apr.1 and Jun.1. The amount of the subsidy will depend on your residential tax submitted for 2013. For children enrolled in a kindergarten after Jun.2, please apply in Nov. 2013, or Feb. 2014. The forms will be distributed at the beginning of June at each kindergarten and may be submitted there.

Residential Tax Payment is due July 1

The first term payment for Residential Tax (Shimin Zei) and Prefectural Residents Tax (Kenmin Zei) are due July 1. The tax bills (No-Zei Tsuchisho) are going to be mailed to the taxpayers from June 3.

Application for Public Housing for Elderly People

There will be a lottery held for a place on the primary waiting list to fill vacant apartments for elderly people. These apartments are designed to provide a safe environment for senior citizens over 60, including barrier-free amenities and emergency call services. *There is no nursing care. *An income-dependent rent subsidy is available. Housing will be available in case of a vacancy between Aug. 2013 and Jul. 2014. (1) 39 units within the city of Yokohama, (2) 1 unit each in Minami-ku Tori-cho, Izumi-ku Okatsu-cho, Totsuka-ku Shinano-cho, Tsurumi-ku Tsurumi Chuo

Preventive Measures Against the Rubella Epidemic

Recently, a rubella epidemic is spreading in the Kanto area. The number of reported patients amounted to be 159 by the end of March this year in Yokohama. Considering that the total number of reported patients last year was only 113, it is likely that this number will continue to increase. If pregnant women without immunity get infected, it could cause babies to be born with congenital rubella syndrome, with symptoms such as cataracts, congenital cardiac disorder, or hearing loss. To prevent the spreading of the disease and also congenital rubella syndrome, part of the inoculation of MR vaccine expense will be subsidized as follows:
Period: until Sep.30 (Mon)
Eligibility:
(1) Female residents of Yokohama over 19 yrs old who want to get pregnant (pregnant women may not get the inoculations) *Please bring your health insurance card.
(2) Yokohama residents who are over 19 yrs old, and are husbands of pregnant women (marriages do not need to be legally registered)
*Please bring your health insurance card and your partner’s Mother & Child Health Handbook.
(Medical institutions will check your age and look at your Mother & Child Health Handbook to check that you are the father of the baby.)
*Subsidy is only for those who have never been inoculated with MR vaccine or rubella vaccine.
Type of Vaccine: MR (measles/rubella) vaccine *independent rubella vaccine is not subsidized.

Experience Marine Training on Nippon Maru

Get on board the sail training ship, Nippon Maru. The crew will teach you various types of work on the ship. There are two workshops, one for small children and one for older children.
(1) Marine Workshop for Upper Grades (For children from 4th grade to 6th grade)
Tour around the ship with the crew, experience sweeping the deck, and experience cutter boat training.

Beach Sports Festa 2013

Beach Sports Festa is coming back again this year! Enjoy various beach sports such as beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach handball, beach tennis, and beach tug-of-war.
