Property Tax Payment is due May 1

The first term payment for Property Tax (Koteishisan Zei) and City Planning Tax (Toshi-keikaku Zei) is due Tuesday, May 1. A Property Tax Bill (Noh-Zei Tsuchisho) is mailed to property owners in mid April to be paid at financial institutions or post offices. You can also pay the entire bill in May.

Financial Assistance for School Costs

Financially disadvantaged families with elementary and/or Jr. high school students enrolled at Yokohama City Schools may be eligible to receive financial assistance to help cover costs for items such as school supplies and field trips.
To Apply: Notice for this assistance will be given out from school to all students. Read the notice carefully, fill in the enclosed application form, attach all the necessary documents and submit it to the school.

Application for Municipal Housing Units

Applicants must be over 20 yrs of age and have live or worked in Yokohama for the past six months minimum. Income restrictions apply. *Types of rooms depend on applicants’ age and /or number of family members.
Limit: 532 units
To Apply: Between Apr.11 and 20, please apply by filling in the application form available from Apr.9 at the Information Service Section (Koho-sodan kakari) of your local ward office or at the Administrative Service Corner.

Radiation Detector Available for Rental

Each ward office is lending out radiation detectors for individuals who live within the ward. The reservation for May 1-July 31 use will start at 9:00am on Mon. April 23.
Eligibility: Individual resident who is 20yrs and older. One kit per family.
Available Date&Time: Weekday between May 1 and July 31; 9:00 to 16:00.

Changes in Holiday Emergency Dental Treatment

From April, there are some changes in holiday emergency dental treatment: Totsuka ward is no longer available and Kanazawa ward has shortened its operating hours. Please go to Yokohama Dental Health and Medical Center/Yokohama-shi Shika Hoken Iryo Center (7 min walk from JR Sakuragicho Stn) which is available 19:00-23:00 every night, and 10:00-16:00 on Sundays, holidays, and New year’s holiday (Dec.29 to Jan.4). April 11, a nursery school that accepts sick children will open. It is located within a clinic.

A new residency management system

The residency management system for foreigners will change. (The existing alien registration system will be abolished.)
■Foreigners who are staying in Japan legally over 3 months
・July 9, 2012 and onward, foreign residents will be eligible to receive a Residence Record Card.
・Around May, a letter will be sent to each registered alien resident to confirm the registered information. Report to the ward office in case of any discrepancy in your information.
・Your Alien registration card can be used for a certain time, but please report to an Immigration office and change to a new card at your earliest convenience. (For more details, please contact the Immigration office)
・July 9, 2012 and onward, you need to report to your ward office when you are moving out of the city of Yokohama.
■No residency registration system for those who are staying in Japan with short-term visas or no visa.

Application for Public Housing for the Elderly

A lottery will be held for 25 vacant public housing units. Rooms will be available from August, 2012. They are designed to provide a safe environment for senior citizens over 60, including barrier-free amenities and emergency call services. *There is no nursing care. *An income-dependent rent subsidy is available.
Eligibility: People over 60 yrs old, and who are living or working in Yokohama at the time of application.
