Notice for Entering Elementary School and for Medical Check-up

Those who are entering elementary school from April, 2010 will receive a notice mid Oct. A medical examination of children before they begin school will start at the end of Oct. Please go to your local ward office, registration section if you wish to send your foreign national child to public elementary school.

Subsidies for Parents with Children in National/Private/Int’l Schools

Subsidies for school supplies, field trips, etc. will be offered to Yokohama residents who, for financial reasons, are unable to cover these costs.
Eligibility: ①Families of children who attend a private elementary or junior high school in Yokohama or who attend a national or prefectural elementary or junior high school in and out of Yokohama. ②Families with children of non-Japanese nationalities who attend an international school (elementary or junior high school) in Yokohama.

Students wanted for Specially Authorized Schools for School Year, 2010

There are schools that provide an integrated system of elementary and junior high school or educational activities where they interact with their communities. From these characterized schools, the Yokohama Board of Education designated some schools, considering capacity of the schools etc. Students out of these special authorized schools’ school district are wanted from next April.
To Apply: Fill out an application form available Sep.7 at elementary and Junior High School, Information Service Section (Koho-sodan kakari)/Registration Section (Toroku kakari) of your local ward office, Office of Public Information Access (1F of City Hall) or Gakko Keikaku-ka, the Board of Education. *Application forms are also available at http://www.city.yokohama.jp/me/kyoiku/kyoiku_info/shisaku7000.html
Application Period: Each authorized school will hold an orientation session. Please attend the orientation session given at your child’s school, or the school at which you plan to enroll your child. The application period is from the each school’s orientation day to Dec.18 (Elementary School) and Jan.29, 2010 (Junior High school).

Services for the Elderly: Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day

The third Monday of September is Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day. Facilities in Yokohama are offering complimentary entrance and other services for the elderly.
Eligibility: 65yrs and older who show Hama-tomo card. *For Fureyu, 60yrs and older as Sep.15.

Yokohama Jazz Promenade 2009

The biggest jazz festival in Japan is coming back. It will take place for two days at approx. 120 halls and clubs. More than 2,000 musicians, both professionals and amateurs, will participate.
