Application for City-Managed apartment

There will be a lottery to fill newly available apartments managed by the city. (New apartments include newly constructed and newly vacant)

“Hama-tomo” Card for Elders

“Choju-no-shiori”, which has been issued to persons who are over 65 yrs old, will be abolished at the end Mar. 2009. Instead, the “Hama-tomo" card, which began last Oct., will offer the same good-deal services pvovided by the “Choju-no-shiori”. Those who haven't applied yet for the "Hama-tomo" card, may apply at local Ward Office.

Subsidies for Tuition for 1,000 Home-Helpers

Those who finished the home-helper 2nd grade course at a school affiliated with the City of Yokohama and received employment through the Welfare Facility, etc. within the City may apply for a subsidy covering half/all school tuition related costs.
Limit: 1,000 people *First come, first served.
Eligibility: Yokohama Citizen who are employed through the Welfare Facility etc., and work within Yokohama city limits.
Subsidy: Half of the tuition fee (¥40,000 maximum) *Full assistance is available only to those who qualify.
To Apply: Obtain an application available at any affiliated schools, or at City Hall (Health and Social Welfare Bureau, Project Division/ Yokohama-shi KenkoFukushi kyoku Kikaku-ka) between Apr.1 - Feb.26, 2010.

Aquatic Exercise Class for Children with Asthma

Aqua-exercises wil work on stretching the respiratory muscles and focus on breathing all of which is known to be effective for children with asthma.

Yokohama Minato Museum Renewal Opening

As one of the commemorative projects for the 150th Anniversary of the Port Opening, the Yokohama Marine Museum will reopen Apr.24, renamed the “Yokohama Minato (Port) Museum”. The 150-year history of the Yokohama Port will be on permanent display as part of the new “History” and “Rediscovery” permanent exhibitions.
Date& Time: Open at 12:00 noon on Apr.24.

Nihon Odori Flower Art Festival

On the street of Nihon Odori, 240,000 roses and tulips will be laid out to form a flower picture. Enjoy the art of flowers!
Date&Time: May 2 (Sat) Flower picture-making begins at 13:00 and will finish at 17:00. It will be on display until May 3 (Sun), 22:00. Depending on the weather, the display may be extended to May 6.

Yokohama Spring Fair 2009 (Calling all Green Thumbs!)

This horticultural event features: a tulip festival at Yokohama Park (160,000 tulips on display, flower sale, charity section, etc), a flower bed exhibition at Yamashita Park (flower beds made by professionals and local amateurs ), and a stamp rally which will connect both parks.

Pictures Wanted for the Children’s Art Contest

The 28th Port-Opening Festival seeks pictures (watercolor or crayon) addressing the following themes: “The scenery of the Yokohama port,” or “Yokohama, celebrating its 150th port-opening anniversary” 10 works will be selected and prizes awarded at the Port-Opening Festival on Jun.2.
Date&Time: The display of pictures will be from May 31 (Sun)–Jun.2 (Tue) 10:00-21:00
Location: Yokohama Port-Opening Festival, MM21 Rinko Park (5 min walk from Sakuragi-cho Stn of JR Keihin Tohoku Line, or Minatomirai Stn of Minatomirai Line)
