3 New Facilities Which Accept Nursing of Sick Children

For parents who cannot take care of their children during the daytime, the following are 3 new facilities which can take care of children (6 months old thru 3rd grade in elementary school) when they are sick. They are nurseries with medical institutions attached to them. Byoji Hoikushitsu means nurseries for sick children.

Holiday Emergency Dental Treatment in Totsuka ends

Holiday emergency dental treatment in Totsuka ward ends as of March, 2011. From April, if you need emergency dental treatment on Sundays and holidays, please go to Yokohama Dental Health and Medical Center (Yokohama-shi Shika Iryo Hoken Center).

Scholarship Offered to High School Students

A High school scholarship is offered to students under the following conditions: Their guardians must be residents of Yokohama, students should be enrolled in high school, have good behavior, have achieved high academic results (Last year’s grade point average for all subjects should be over 4.0.), and have difficulties paying for tuition (Last year’s household income should be under \8,000,000.).
Limit: Approx. 480 people *Chosen by screening.
Amount: \5,000 per month (You are not required to return the money.)
To Apply: By April 28, submit an application form to your high school, who will send it to Kyoiku Iinkai Jimukyoku Koko Kyoiku-ka. Application for Special Nursing Home Units for the Elderly

A Special nursing home for the elderly will open in Seya-ku in September, 2011. It is for people with care needs certification level 1-5. You need to pay for 10% of the nursing service fee. A notification will be sent after May, to those who are accepted.

Subsidies for Single Mother Families

The City of Yokohama provides financial support for single mother families with children who are starting high school, junior college, university, and vocational schools from this April. There are three types of allowance; ①school expenses ②training expenses and ③school entrance preparation allowance. Please bring your withholding exemption certificate (gensen choshu hyo) or income tax returns (kakutei shinkoku sho) to the interview. If you do not have these, please bring your payslips for the past 3 months. After screening, there will be a judgment on whether you are eligible to receive subsidies. Please ask in person as to the maximum amount of each allowance.
To Apply: Please go directly to your local Ward Office’s Fukushi-Hoken Center.

Registered volunteer interpreters can be assigned, for those who have difficulty communicating in Japanese on public matters associated with Yokohama City, to places such as ward offices, public schools and nursery schools. Now Yokohama City Consumer Service Center is added to the list.
Consultation Topics: Consumer Service Center staff respond to your troubles on the purchase of products/services and on sales contracts.

Application for Elderly People’s Public Housing

There will be a lottery to fill apartments designed to provide senior citizens’ safety such as barrier-free and emergency call service. *There is no nursing care. *Housing available in June (42 units at Izumi-ku, Okazucho). Subsidies for rent are available depending on income.
Eligibility: People who are living or working in Yokohama and are over 60 yrs old at the time of application.

Medical Examination for Female-Specific Cancer

Free coupons for female-specific cancer (cervical and breast cancer) examinations have been mailed to women of the set age group. As an increasing number of women are requesting to have the examinations, it has been difficult to get appointments for certain medical institutions. If you have the free coupons, please try to use them by Mar. 31, 2011.
