Transportation Passes for the Elderly

If you are over 70 years old and would like to newly apply for a transportation pass, please call the Call Center at (045) 664-2530 (*J).
Those who have a transportation pass for the elderly that expires on Sep.30 and had applied for a new one by the time they received their pass last year will receive either a statement of payment or an exchange ticket for a new pass between the beginning to mid September.

Coming-of-Age Ceremony

Those who turn 20 years old are considered to have become adults. This special event celebrates those who turn 20 years old that fiscal year.
Eligibility: Those born between Apr.2, 1992 and Apr.1, 1993 and living in Yokohama.

Expansion of Coverage of Medical Certificate for Infants

The Medical Certificate for Infants (Shoni Iryo-sho) covers pediatric medical fees from new-born babies up to the elementary school entering age. The coverage will now be expanded until the end of the 1st grade of elementary school.
To Apply: A guide and application form will be sent to pupils in the first grad in late August. Please send back the enclosed application form.

Health Check-up Tickets for National Health Insurance Certificate Holders

Tokutei Kenko Shinsa (Health Check-up for Specific Purposes) is going to be offered for adults between the ages of 40 to 74 who have enrolled in the National Health Insurance before April 1, 2012.
The health check-ups cover high blood pressure, hyperlipemia, diabetes, and other adult diseases, and includes guidance to improve symptoms or advice on how to prevent such problems.
Tickets, questionnaires, and a list of designated check-up facilities are sent to eligible people. The first set was sent in May to those born between April and November, and the second set will be sent at the beginning of August for birthdates between December and March.
Fee: \1,200 (If you were exempt from the city tax in 2011, then the fee is \400.)
To Apply: Make an appointment ahead of time at the facility of your choice, selected from the provided list; you must bring the check-up ticket, the questionnaire and your most recent National Health Insurance Certificate.
*Check-up tickets are valid until Mar.31, 2013.

YOKE Japanese Classes for Newcomers

This course, aimed at the beginner and introductory levels, fully supports foreign residents who have started their new life in Yokohama. The course is twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) and consists of 20 lessons. The curriculum is planned so that you can learn practical Japanese systematically. (You can take this Japanese course up to 3 times.) During the course, there is a multilingual orientation, which lets you know about information useful for your daily life, such as international exchange events and how to request a volunteer interpreter.

Eligibility: Applicants must be over 16 yrs old.

Tea Meeting with the Mayor

Meet and exchanging ideas with the Mayor over a cup of tea.

Eligibility: People who live, work, or go to school in Yokohama. Please apply in groups consisting of 5-10 members. Children over elementary school age to adults are eligible (Elementary/junior high school student groups must be accompanied by guardians.)

Runners Wanted for the Yokohama Marathon

The 32nd Yokohama Marathon is seeking participants for the 10 km marathon, the half marathon, and 12.7 km wheel-chair marathon. The course is from Yamashita Park.
Date&Time: Dec.2 (Sun), 9:10-11:30 *Cancelled in case of inclement weather.
Fee: Adult \5,000, High school students \3,000
Limit: 5,300 people for the 10 km marathon, 3,200 people for the half marathon, and 25 people for the 12.7 km wheel-chair marathon *First come, first served.
Eligibility: For the 10 km and wheel-chair marathon, participants should be over 15 yrs old. Junior high school students are not eligible. For the half marathon, participants should be over 18 yrs old. High school students are not eligible.
Meeting Place: Yamashita Park (5 min walk from Motomachi Chukagai Stn on the Minatomirai Line)
