To National Health Insurance Certificate Holders

①Notice of settlement for this year’s National Health Insurance Premium will be sent out mid- June.
②If you are between the ages of 65 and 74, and previously were a dependent of a social health insurance certificate holders, the National Health Insurance Premium may be reduced for a period of 2 years.
③Discount tickets for swimming pools, attached on the Kokuho Dayori, (National Health Insurance Newsletter),will be enclosed in the settlement notice. You may also pick up a copy at the Insurance Section of your local ward office. You will need to show your National Health Insurance Card.

Does your child spend time alone at home? Dispatch a home-friend!

University student volunteers (available primarily over the summer holiday) are lining up to be dispatched to single-parent homes for a period up to 5 days. Two meetings to explain this project will be held prior to the actual dispatching. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in volunteering (volunteers need not be students), or wish to have a volunteer come to your home.
Limit: 30 single-parent homes, and 30 volunteers.

Have you already obtained your “Hama Tomo Card” ?

If you are Yokohama citizen and over 65yrs. or over, you may apply for a “Hama-tomo Card” at either a post office (till Sep. of this year) or your local ward office. Please show your ID such as foreign registration card, national insurance card or driver license at the time of application. With the “Hama Tomo Card”, you will receive various benefits at participating facilities. The latest booklet with a list of these facilities wil be available at all Post Offices, ward offices, care plazas, and welfare centers at the end of June.

The Symptoms of swine influenza are various, but it is basically similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general. Symptoms include sudden fever, body aches, headache, cough, sore throat, and diarrhea etc.

Application・How to receive:
Application form will be sent to eligible recipients (head of household for Japanese) in mid May.
In principle, please apply by postal mail.Cash payments are available only to those unable to receive payment by bank transfer (i.e., no bank account, etc.)

Special Support Allowance for Raising Children

To families with more than two children born between Apr. 2, 1990 and Apr. 1, 2005, Yokohama-shi is providing a one-time special allowance of \36,000 per child. They need to fall under the categories below:
①The child(ren) must be the second or younger sibling. *The term, “second and younger children” refers to the second or younger children who were born on or after Apr.2, 1990.
②Dates of birth must be between Apr. 2, 2002 and Apr. 1, 2005 ③As of Feb.1, 2009, the child must be registered as resident, or has alien registration, and therefore has legal resident status. Short-term resident visas are not admitted.
To Apply: Beginning May 11, application forms will be sent to eligible households. A copie of personal identification (i.e. drivers’ license), a copy of the bank account book, and a copy of your alien registration card should be mailed along with the application form. Please refer to the form for details.

Subsidies provided household pet spay /neuter procedures

The city of Yokohama provides financial assistance to those Yokohama residents who wish to have their cat or dog spayed or neutered.Subsidies will also cover the procedure for stray cats. The amount of the subsidy is \5,000 for pets and \7,000 for stray cats per operation.
Eligibility: The applicants need to be Yokohama citizen who are

20 yrs and over. Cats or dogs should be at least 6months old at the time of operation. As for dogs, they have to be registered, and should be inoculated for rabies in 2009.
Limit: Up to 3,000 in total of cats and dogs *First come, first served

Plant Trees to Make a Forest!

The city of Yokohama will plant a commemorative forest for the 150th port opening anniversary! This is a tree-planting ceremony in which you can take part in the planting of 1.5 million acorns donated by our own residents!
