Earthquake Disaster Information Center

Based on an agreement with the City of Yokohama, YOKE has set up an Earthquake Disaster Information Center for foreigners, which supports foreign residents by providing multilingual information on assistance for the quake victims, information on food and health safety due to the radioactivity from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant explosion, and so on. *The schedule listed below may be subject to change without advance notice.

Medical Checkup of the Brain

Yokohama Goodwill Ambassadors Wanted

The City of Yokohama seeks goodwill ambassadors who are willing to promote tourism in Yokohama.
Eligibility: Yokohama citizens or foreign citizens who are registered in Yokohama. Applicants must be able to participate in approx. 40 activities throughout the year. (There are activities on weekdays, and also on weekends.) Must be over 18 yrs old. Should have a basic knowledge of tourism in Yokohama.
Limit: Two people

Applications for “Yokohama Live-in” Public Housing Units

Lottery registration will be accepted for those wishing to be on the family unit waiting list. Income restrictions apply. Financial aid is available for those who are eligible. As for units available at the moment, applications are accepted on a first come first served basis.

To Apply: Fill out an application form available at the Information Service Section (Koho Sodan Kakari) of your local ward office, or at the Administrative Service Corner. Loan Available for School Expenses for Single-Mother Families

A loan is available for single mother families whose children are entering high school, junior college, university, or vocational schools this coming April. This fund should be used for ①entrance to schools, ②school tuition and other school expenses, and ③school entrance preparation costs.
To Apply: Between Feb.1 and Mar.2, please come to your local Ward’s Health & Welfare Center (Fukushi Hoken Center Kodomo Katei (Shogai) Shien-ka), and bring your certificate of income and withholding tax or tax return. If you do not have these, please bring your payment slips for the past three months. After screening, there is a possibility that you may not be eligible to have this loan arrangement. As for the maximum amount of the loan, please inquire when you apply.
Application Period: If you are applying for ①and③ or ②and③ at the same time, please come between Feb.1 to Mar.2. If you are applying for ③only, please come by Mar.2. If you are applying for ① or ② individually, please come after Apr.2.

The New Year’s Review of Fire Brigades

On Jan.27: Free admission and a rice cake marked with a branding iron of “Nihon Maru” will be given to the first 1,000 visitors.

Dondo Yaki

People burn the calligraphy drawn on New Year’s day and New Year’s decorations at the bonfire to wish for a good year to come. There will be food venders too.
