Subsidies for Kindergarten Tuition

Subsidies between \48,000 and \194,200 (depending on residential tax for 2008) will be provided to families with children who have enrolled in a private kindergarten between April 1 to June 1. The form will be distributed in June at each school and may be submitted there.

Does your child spend time alone at home? Home-friends can be dispatched

Mainly during the summer vacation, volunteers, mostly university students, can be sent to single-parent homes, in which a child is spending time on his/her own. The volunteers are Japanese, so the accepting children need to have basic communication skills in Japanese.
Two meetings to explain this project (in Japanese) will be held prior to the actual dispatching. Please attend this meeting if you are interested either to work as a volunteer or to have the volunteer come to your home.

Tax payment is due June 30 (Mon)

The first term payment for Residential Tax (Shimin Zei) and Prefectural Residents Tax (Kenmin Zei) is due June 30 (Mon). A Resident Tax Bill (Noh-Zei Tsuchisho) is mailed to the taxpayer every year in early June to be paid in June, August, October and the following January, at financial institutions or post offices. Payment is also accepted at convenience stores.

National Pension Plan - Special Payment System for Students

This is a financial support system for students whose last
year’s income is less than the amount set by the city.
Payment of premium for National Pension can be exempted if
you make an application. Even if you have been getting
this exemption from last year, if you would like to
continue, you need to go through the application procedure
again this year.

Application: If you received an application post card,
fill in the card, put your signature on the application,
and mail it to Shakai Hoken Jimukyoku Jimu Senta.
If you received a flyer and the application form, fill in
the form, attach a copy of your student ID card, put on
your signature, and mail it to your local Social Insurance
Office (Shakai Hoken Jimusho). If you are applying for the
first time, fill in the application form, and bring it
along with your student ID card (photocopy is accepted) and
your pension book (Nenkin Techo), directly to your loca
l ward office’s National Pension Plan Section (Kokumin Nenkin Kakari).
If you sign your application, your
personal seal (inkan) is not necessary.

YOKE Information Corner provides pertinent and up-to-date
information on life in Yokohama, and has multi-lingual
services available to answer any questions foreign
residents may have. The center will also offer advice and
information pertaining to international exchange, volunteer
activities, and support groups aimed at assisting non-
native residents.
The availability of these services has changed since April.

Child Allowance(Jido teate)

This financial subsidy is offered to families with child(ren) in sixth grade or below.

Income restrictions apply; though cases will be re-examined in May.
Persons who were not able to receive the allowance
in the previous fiscal year may be eligible from the next fiscal year.
Applications will be received at the ward office.
Eligibility: Non-Japanese Registration Certificate holders
with valid Status and period of stay

*Those who have been receiving this subsidy will be
notified by end of May. Please follow the necessary procedures in June.

Fine for Smoking in 3 Designated Areas in Yokohama

City of Yokohama designated 3 non-smoking areas: around Yokohama Station ,
in Minatomirai 21 ,and in Kannai. Within the non-smoking area,
smoking is strictly prohibited in the outdoor public space.

From January 21st 2008, those who have violated this rule are fined 2,000yen.
