NOTICE for Foreign National who Becomes 16 yrs old

On July 9th this year, a new residency management system has started. Those who become 16yrs old MUST apply for their resident cards by their 16th birthday. You can apply for it from 6 months prior to your 16th birthday. You should apply for your resident card at the Immigration office. Please check the following sites for more details.

Procedure for Municipal Elementary School Enrollment

Children who were born between April 2, 2006 and April 1, 2007 are eligible to get into elementary school in April 2013. “Nyugaku Annai, enrollment information” was sent in September to those who have foreign national children. Please go to your local ward office to take a certain procedure if you wish to send your child(ren) to a public elementary school in your area. “Nyugaku Tsuchi, enrollment notification” was sent in October to those who have Japanese national children. You don’t need to take any special procedure. There will be medical checkups and explanation sessions before entering elementary school. Please check these dates.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology offers sites to introduce the Japanese education system and enrollment procedures in multi-languages. Please refer to the following site.

Junior High School Entrance

Students who will be entering Junior High School from April 2013 will be sent notifications of their Junior High School entrance on or after January 21, 2013.
For Non-Japanese students who wish to enter public Junior High School in Yokohama but have not received this notification, please go to the Registration Division (Toroku-Tanto) of your local ward office.

Partial Change on City’s Residence Tax Regulation

For the purpose of promoting the city’s urgent disaster prevention and disaster mitigation tasks, \500 extra per capita will be added on to residence tax from Heisei 26 fiscal year to Heisei 35 (April, 2014 to 2023). Privatization of Municipal Nurseries

The City of Yokohama has been privatizing 32 municipal nurseries since 2005. After they have been privatized, the nurseries are offering new services such as extending their hours including services on Saturdays. In April, 2015, Sasage Hoikuen (Konan-ku) and Nakao Hoikuen (Asahi-ku) will be privatized.

Kanagawa International Foundation has done research on foreign national caregivers who work at facilities within Kanagawa Prefecture. They published the research report and “work handbook on nursing care” in multi-languages for those who might be interested in this field of work.

Vaccinations for Four Infectious Diseases

From November of this year, inactivated polio vaccine will be added to the DPT (diphtehria/pertussis/tetanus) vaccine, and will be available to infants who are eligible.
Eligibility and vaccination method: Same as the former DPT vaccine.

Subsidies for Fees Regarding Private Kindergarten Entrance

Subsidies of between \48,000 and \226,200 (depending on your residential tax submitted for 2012) will be provided to Yokohama resident families with children who are enrolled in private kindergartens between June 2 and November 1. (For children who have moved to Yokohama recently and enrolled in kindergartens after November 2, please apply in January.)
To Apply: Application forms will be distributed in mid-November at each kindergarten. Please submit it to your kindergarten.
