Naka International Lounge: Japanese Course for Newcomers

In November, Naka International Lounge is starting a new Japanese language course. This is a beginner course for those who have recently come to Japan, and would like to get a good start in a Japanese-speaking environment.
Date&Time: Nov.17 to Mar.15 *30 classes. (Twice a week; Tuesdays and Thursdays), 90 min class, 10:30-12:00
Class Style: Small group lessons (6 groups of about 6 people in each group)

Yokohama International Festa 2011

Influenza Vaccinations for Senior Citizens

Eligibility: ①Those who are 65 yrs and older who are Yokohama citizens and/or have alien registration cards registered in Yokohama.
②Those over 60 yrs and under 65 yrs who have functional disorders of the heart, kidneys, or respiratory functions, or have problems of the immune system due to HIV. *The degree of these disorders should be equivalent to the first grade disability designated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Date: Available between Oct.1 and Dec.31
Location: One of the cooperating hospitals. *Only once per person. *Bring your health insurance card.
Fee: \2,000 *Free for those who are ①or②, and/or on welfare or exempt from municipal tax.

Notice for Entering Elementary School and for Medical Check-up

Those who are entering elementary school from April, 2012 will receive notice and a medical examination form in mid Oct. A medical examination of children before they begin school will start at the end of Oct. Please go to your ward office, registration section (Koseki-ka Toroku Tanto) if you wish to send your foreign national child to public elementary school.

Subsidies for Parents with Children in National/Private/Int’l Schools

Subsidies for school fees are offered to Yokohama residents who are unable to cover the costs.
Eligibility: ①Families of children who attend a private elementary or junior high school in Yokohama or who attend a national prefectural elementary or junior high school in or out of Yokohama. ②Families with children of non-Japanese nationalities who attend an international school (elementary or junior high school) in Yokohama

Students Wanted for Specially Authorized Schools for the 2012 School Year

Public elementary and junior high school students go to schools in their designated areas according to where they live, but there are certain public schools in Yokohama which provide unique education that was established to improve the academic level of the public school education in Yokohama, you may send your children, even if the schools are outside your original school district to these specially authorized schools.
As for the details of the education and the list of schools, please look at the booklet which you can obtain from the ward office, Koho Sodan Kakari, Information Service Section. You may also refer to the Board of Education website. Application for elementary schools is by Dec.16, and for junior high schools, it is by Jan.27.

Services for the Elderly: Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day

The third Monday of September is Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day. Facilities in Yokohama are offering complimentary entrance and other services for the elderly.
Eligibility: People who are 65 yrs and older. (Please bring a Hama-tomo Card or Health Insurance Card which shows your age.) *For Fureyu, 60 yrs and older.
