Seeking Foreign Part-time Instructors for Public Elementary Schools

Foreign instructors (of any nationality) are needed to teach classes in English on their own country and culture at Yokohama Public Elementary Schools.
Eligibility: Those who hold a valid visa with no working hour limit (also including those who are naturalized), have both English and Japanese speaking ability, have a university degree or equivalent and are younger than 65 yrs old as of March 31, 2013. *Chosen by screening.
Condition: 3-5 hours a day, about twice a week (Mon-Fri). This position is from April, 2013-March 2014
Wage: \3,150/hour (planned/transportation fee included)

Have You Applied for the Child Allowance?

If you still have not applied for the Child Allowance (old system) since October 2011, please hand in your application by the end of September. If you fail to apply, you will not be able to receive the benefits. Please note that as September 30 all on a Sunday, you must apply by September 28 (Friday). You can mail your application to Kodomo Seishonen Kyoku Kodomo Kateika Teate Kyufu Kakari (Child and Youth Bureau, Child and Family Division, Benefits Package Section (must be received by the 28th), or take it to your local ward office’s Kodomo Katei (Shogai) Shien-ka. Application forms are available to download from the Kodomo Seishonen Kyoku website, or at ward offices.

MR Vaccinations

Children between ages 11 and 13 are eligible for free MR vaccinations. Notifications are now being sent to those who were born between Apr. 2, 2001 and Aug.1, 2001. Fill in the vaccination coupon which is enclosed with the notice, and bring it with your Mother and Child Health Handbook (Boshi Kenko Techo) to a participating medical institution. Some institutions require prior reservation, so check with the medical institution before you go.

Enrollment Information for Elementary Schools

Municipal elementary school enrollment information and the notice for medical checkup prior to enrollment will be mailed in mid-October to those who are eligible. Medical checkups will start towards the end of October. If you are a foreign national (with or without juminhyo, residence card), and wish to enroll your child into a municipal elementary school, please contact your ward office’s Koseki-ka Toroku Tanto (Family Registry).

Subsidies for Parents with Children in National/Private/Int’l Schools

Subsidies for tuition for the above schools, including foreign national families who have difficulty financially to pay the int’l school tuition
Eligibility: ①Families with children who attend a national or private elementary or junior high school in Yokohama
②Families with children of non-Japanese nationalities who attend an international school (elementary or junior high) in Yokohama
In both cases, recipients must be Yokohama residents. Income restrictions apply.

Services for the Elderly: Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day

The third Monday of September is Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day. Facilities in Yokohama are offering complimentary entrance and other services for the elderly.

Sep.15 (Sat) to Sep.17 (holiday): Admission is free for ③Landmark Tower (observatory deck)
Sep.17 (Holiday): Admission is free for ④Sogo Museum, ⑤Sail Training Ship Nippon Maru/Yokohama Port Museum, ⑥NYK Hikawa Maru, ⑦NYK Maritime Museum, ⑧Yokohama Marine Tower, and ⑨Yokohama Doll Museum. *For ⑥and⑦, one accompanying person will also get free entrance.
For all the above facilities, please bring an ID such as the Hama Tomo card, which shows that you are over 65 yrs old.
Sep.17 (holiday) to Sep.21 (Fri): Half-price admission for Fureyu, Yokohama Recreation and Study Facility for the Elderly (Fureyu has facilities such as an indoor swimming pool and a big bath.) Please bring your ID such as your health insurance card to show that you are over 60 yrs old.

National Pension: Deferred Payment of Premiums

Up to now, if you have failed to pay the premiums for two years or more, you were no longer able to make any deferred payments. However, due to the changes in The National Pension Act, you are now allowed to pay your premiums for the past 10 years. This is only possible for three years after Oct.1, 2012. You must apply for this payment at your local ward office. *Those who are receiving benefits of the basic pension for the elderly (Rorei Kiso Nenkin) are not eligible to apply for this system.

Openings for the Municipal Cemetery

Application forms will be available at ward offices and administrative service corners (Gyosei Service Corner).
At Memorial Green, 300 plots are available for Symbol Tree Type (urns are buried directly under a collective lawn mound surrounded by trees and flowers), and 1,700 plots are available for Memorial Type (urns placed in a mausoleum-type space below ground. Above ground, there is a memorial.) At Hino Koen Bochi, 300 family grave plots are available. *There will be a lottery in case of many applications.

Free Cervical Cancer Vaccination

Eligibility: Girls between 1st grade of Jr. High School and 3rd grade of High School.
Period: Until Mar.31, 2013
Series of Injections: 3 times over a 6-month period. *In order to receive all 3 vaccinations for free, you need to have your first vaccination by the end of September at the latest.
